Membership Hack: Museum Exhibit

Members of the International Trademark Association created an exhibit for the National Inventors Hall of Fame Museum. The exhibit uses content inspired by a public awareness campaign that educates young people on counterfeit goods.

How to hack it? Earlier this month, members and staff of the International Trademark Association (INTA) unveiled a new museum exhibit at the National Inventors Hall of Fame in Alexandria, Virginia.

The exhibit, called “The Power of Trademarks,” opened on June 3 and runs until May 2021. The display was inspired by INTA’s Unreal Campaign, a public-awareness effort that educates young consumers about the dangers of counterfeiting and the importance of trademarks and brands.

“The exhibition provides an enormous opportunity to educate consumers of all ages about the importance of trademarks in their daily lives and to highlight the growing threat of counterfeit products,” said INTA CEO Etienne Sanz de Acedo in a statement.

Part of the exhibit places authentic and counterfeit goods side-by-side, so visitors can spot the difference between real and fake items:

Why does it work? The interactive exhibit is the culmination of work supported by INTA members, and some of the museum’s content and displays were donated by member companies like Microsoft, Nike, and PepsiCo.

What’s the bonus? Many parts of the exhibit are also tailored to educating young people about the trademark profession. “We’re certain it will leave a lasting impression on visitors and reinforce brands’ contributions to individuals, society, and the economy,” Sanz de Acedo said.
