Daily Buzz: Celebrating an Anniversary Through Haiku
Get your creative wheels spinning; the American National Standards Institute is hosting a haiku competition ahead of its 100th anniversary. Also: a crowdsourced take on the ASAE Annual Meeting.
In poetry, there are no standards—unless you’re writing a haiku. Which is why the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is hosting a haiku competition in celebration of its 100th anniversary this year.
Entries for the contest should follow the traditional 17-syllable, three-line format and focus on any voluntary standard that strikes as poetic inspiration. ANSI will select winners in five categories: technically relevant, funny, traditional, poetic and beautiful, and overall best haiku.
Submissions are open until October 19, the day of ANSI’s founding and the last day of this year’s World Standards Week. Winners will be announced in November.
Thinking about entering? We’ll just leave you with this haiku before you get to writing:

If you’re at this year’s ASAE Annual Meeting & Exposition in Chicago, you already know that a lot of work and preparation has gone into the conference. Industry leaders and association professionals from around the world are in the Windy City learning and exchanging new strategies, solutions, and resources to make their associations better.
If you’re not at the conference, take it from 5:00 Films & Media’s Tim Parsons, the National Confectioners Association’s VJ Mayor, and Seenit’s Emily Forbes, who presented a session on crowdsourced video Sunday. The presenters, who previously collaborated on an effort for NCA, created a crowdsourced video of their experience at the conference leading up to their Sunday session.
The video isn’t complete, either: If you feel like adding your own imprint on the crowdsourced clip, share your experience at ASAE Annual by downloading Seenit Capture and uploading your video with the Seenit Capture ID “asae18.”
