Social Media Roundup: Tradeshows Expected to Blossom

Projections in the tradeshow industry point to growth in 2013. Also: why dialogue is key for effective communication.

Growth Chart

Tradeshow organizers rejoice! Projections for 2013 show a slow but certain growth in the conference industry. The Center for Exhibition Industry Research discovered that between 2011 and 2012, the industry grew very little. Michael Hughes, managing director of research and consulting at Red 7 Media, covered the survey results. What does he think will put tradeshows and conferences ahead? Managing risks with creativity. “Leading firms in healthy industries are seeing good growth and likely strong profitability. They are also open to new ideas. There’s enough confidence in these types of firms to do something big and different today at your shows. Be more creative with your key partners.” (ht @InsightsChick)

Talk it out

To communicate, there needs to be an exchange of ideas. Whether it’s your attendees or your staff, no one likes to be lectured. This poor form of communication. If you’re trying to make a point, you should have an open conversation with your audience. Author and Squidoo.com founder Seth Godin believes dialogue is key to communicating. “‘Let’s talk,’ uses today’s interaction to make it more likely you have one tomorrow. And a dialogue leads to connection, which leads to trust which leads to engagement,” he writes. (ht @ASegar)
