Realtors Join Forces With Boys & Girls Clubs of America
The National Association of Realtors has announced it will join the youth development nonprofit organization to help strengthen communities across the country.
The country’s largest professional association wants to do more to reach out to local communities. That makes sense, because its members are all about building communities—and for that they may have found the perfect partner.
The National Association of Realtors (NAR) will team up with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) as part of a charity and volunteer work initiative.
“We are proud to partner with NAR, state and local Realtor associations, and the more than 1 million Realtors nationwide,” Jim Clark, BGCA’s president and CEO, said in a news release. “Realtors live and work in every ZIP code in the country and, like Boys & Girls Clubs, are woven into the fabric of the communities they serve.”
In January, NAR members will be offered a variety of volunteer options with their local Boys & Girls Clubs, from helping with a short-lived school-supply drive to year-round mentoring of a child, according to a volunteer pamphlet [PDF].
The BGCA is encouraging NAR members to embrace the youthful spirit of its organization and to get creative with projects. Meanwhile, NAR is highlighting success stories of its members volunteering with BGCA.
“One of the neatest campaigns we did to raise funds and awareness for the club was ‘You’ve been flocked,'” NAR member Ruth Briggs King noted of a project she took part in with her local BGCA chapter. “We’d placed 40 plastic flamingoes in someone’s yard. They’d make a donation to have them removed and they’d recommend putting them in someone else’s yard.
“It was a lot of fun and raised a lot of money for the club,” she added.
The Realtors association takes pride in its focus on philanthropy.
In 2001, NAR launched the Realtors Relief Foundation to “provide housing-related assistance to victims of disasters” according to its website. When Hurricane Isaac hit in 2012, the foundation donated $100,000 to help survivors, many of whom were located in the New Orleans area.
Community outreach is also an integral part of the organization, which requires all members to do some sort of volunteer or charity work every year as part of its core standards policy.
The NAR and BGCA have packed a section of the NAR website with information, videos, and success stories, which they hope will inspire consumers and other associations to join a cause they care deeply about.
“BGCA has been close to my heart for many years,” NAR President Tom Salomone said in a news release, adding, “and as I begin my NAR presidential term, I am very excited that Realtors will be partnering with their local clubs and offering their time and resources to make a difference in the lives of their communities’ children.”
