Conference Circuit: Safety in Numbers

APCO International’s Annual Conference & Expo starts in Orlando early next week.

Close to 3,000 public-safety communications officials will make their way to Orlando, Florida, in the upcoming days to learn about the latest industry trends and developments, share their struggles and successes, and network with their peers from around the world.

Association: Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials International

Conference: APCO International’s Annual Conference & Expo

Venue: Orange County Convention Center

Location: Orlando, Florida

After a few days of preconference courses and meetings, APCO 2016 officially starts on Sunday with a series of education sessions. Then, on Monday morning, legendary football coach and analyst Lou Holtz will discuss his game plan for success during the Opening General Session. Also worth noting:

See it first-hand. APCO 2016 is giving attendees the chance to tour local public-safety answering points— call centers that respond to emergency calls—to see how they operate on a day-to-day basis. Six tours are being offered to the Orlando Police Department, Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, and Ready Creek Communications Center.

Post your best moment. Attendees and exhibitors can take part in the Instagram contest to share a story or memory from the meeting. To participate, they simply have to snap a photo or video and tag it with #apco2016.  The two winners—one for best photo and one for best video—will receive free access to the meeting’s session recordings.

Get app-y. Attendees on the expo floor will want to be sure to make a pit stop at App Island. In this designated area, mobile apps designed specifically for public-safety communications will be on display. Attendees will also be able to demo them and speak with developers.

Tune into the meeting from afar via Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
