Conference Circuit: Greek Life

The Association of Fraternal Leadership and Values’ 2018 Central Conference begins next week in Indianapolis. Attendance is expected to top 3,000.

More than 3,000 undergraduate fraternity and sorority leaders from across the country are headed to Indianapolis next week to collaborate, network, and discuss current events and issues affecting the campus community.

Organization: Association of Fraternal Leadership and Values

Conference: 2018 AFLV Central Conference

Venue: JW Marriott

City: Indianapolis

Following preconference programs on Thursday afternoon, AFLV Central starts that evening with an opening session featuring leadership expert Galen Emanuele. He’ll teach attendees how to apply the improv concept of “Yes, and” to improve communication, team performance, and engagement. Also worth noting on the agenda:

VP in the house. During a Friday afternoon keynote, former Vice President Joe Biden will engage conference attendees in a frank conversation about sexual assault on college campuses and the ongoing prevention work being done through the It’s On Us campaign, which Biden helped launch in 2014.

Perfect pitch. Similar to Shark Tank, Pitch by CAMPUSPEAK will give attendees the opportunity to pitch ideas they believe would solve a campus-related problem. Winning projects will be implemented in fall 2018, and winners will receive up to $15,000 in programs and services to help them get started.

Dress for success. Each day of the conference has a different dress code, ranging from council apparel and collegiate gear to business casual. To help attendees determine what qualifies for the latter category, AFLV has created a Pinterest board with outfit ideas.

Attendees are definitely encouraged to use social media onsite. Twitter (#AFLVCentral), Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat are all options.
