Conference Circuit: Campus Safety

The International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators’ 2018 Conference and Exposition begins this week in Florida. Attendance is expected to top 400.

More than 400 campus public safety leaders are on their way to Orlando, Florida, to learn global best practices, make new connections with colleagues, and meet with companies offering the latest technologies and services.

Organization: International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators

Conference: 2018 Annual Conference & Exposition

Venue: Caribe Royale

City: Orlando, Florida

Following a preconference workshop on Thursday, IACLEA 2018 opens on Friday morning. Orlando Police Department Deputy Chief Mark Canty and Lieutenant Scott Smith will describe the department’s patrol response and SWAT deployment to the June 2016 terror attack at the Pulse Nightclub. They will also discuss the decision-making process that law enforcement undertook during and after the attack. Also worth noting:

One on one. For the first time, IACLEA is offering attendees the chance to book 15-minute, one-on-one meetings with any of its corporate partners. They’ll be able to discuss their campus’ specific needs and hear about everything from emergency communication systems to de-escalation training.

Challenge accepted. During Saturday afternoon’s Industry Challenge session, a panel of experts from schools nationwide will examine how to develop and implement a successful crisis-management plan on college and university campuses.

O Canada. July 1 is Canada Day, which happens to fall right in the middle of the conference. To mark the occasion, IACLEA is hosting a Canada Day Celebration at high-tech driving range TopGolf. And, don’t worry, they’ll have food and drink and other games available for non-golfers.
