Data Nugget: Error Overload

Bad UX leads to high website bounce rates.

A few user experience (UX) mistakes may be the reason your website has a high bounce rate—the percentage of visitors who leave after viewing only one page.

The B2B ratings and reviews firm Clutch asked website users to rate their biggest annoyances with browsing and site navigation. Nearly two-thirds (63 percent) said they would permanently abandon a site if it was unreliable, a UX issue that’s typically signified by broken links or pages with “404-error” messages. Slow page-loading speed also rated high on the list, especially for mobile users looking for immediate access to information.

Website Users’ Top Five Frustrations

24 percent: Unreliability

20 percent: Slow page load time

15 percent: Pop-up forms

13 percent: Advertisements

10 percent: Paywalls/forms
