Comings and Goings: March/April 2015

A roundup of new hires and other personnel moves in the association industry.

The American Society of Civil Engineers has named Tom Smith, CAE, its new executive director. Smith had served as ASCE’s deputy executive director since 2010.

Thomas M. Connelly Jr., Ph.D., has been appointed executive director and CEO of the American Chemical Society. Connelly most recently was executive vice president and chief innovation officer at DuPont.

Business Roundtable has hired Betsy Andres as senior director. Andres previously was the director of media affairs for House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH).

Peter S. Weber, CAE, has been named executive director of the American Association of Endodontists. Most recently, he was executive director of the Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association.

Nathan Naylor has been appointed vice president for global communications for BSA, the Software Alliance. Naylor previously was senior communications and public affairs director for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Department of Veterans Affairs.

The HR Certification Institute has named Amy Schabacker Dufrane, CAE, its new CEO. She previously was its executive director.

Impact Makers has named Rick Johnston, CAE, principal consultant and association vertical lead.

The Federal Communications Bar Association has hired Starsha Valentine as its director of programs and special projects. Valentine joins FCBA from the American Coatings Association, where she was assistant director of educational programs.

Wendy-Jo Toyama has been appointed executive director of the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association. She previously was senior vice president of membership, tripartite relations, and marketing for the American Dental Association.

The Association of Union Constructors and the National Maintenance Agreements Policy Committee, Inc., have promoted Michael Dorsey to senior director of industrial relations and development.

Erica Musyt has been named national sales manager for the Roanoke Valley Convention and Visitors Bureau. Musyt most recently was the senior catering and conference service manager for Kimpton Hotels.

The Greater Madison Convention and Visitors Bureau has promoted Diane Morgenthaler to executive vice president.

Dan Cole has been named senior vice president for tradeshows and expositions at Hargrove. Cole most recently was vice president of business development for the International Consumer Electronics Show at the Consumer Electronics Association.

Shepard Exposition Services has appointed Ricardo Ortiz vice president of sales for its western region.
