Data Nugget: Giving Goes Mobile

The growth in fundraising by mobile device.

Online giving in 2018 ($2.7 billion) was up, accounting for 8.5 percent of all giving, compared to 7.6 percent in 2017, according to a report from the Blackbaud Institute for Philanthropic Impact. As more people use smartphones and other mobile devices to access the internet, it is becoming a more popular way to donate online. The number of those giving from a mobile device rose to nearly one in four in 2018. “This has grown steadily since 2014, and even higher rates occur for event registration and member purchases,” the report says.
