Social Media Roundup: Event Planning Tips From Yoda
Jedi Master Yoda delivers some event planning inspiration. Also: A technology group uses data to measure member participation and staffer performance.
Sometimes it’s not what you say, it’s how you say it. We all remember Yoda’s interestingly phrased tidbits of wisdom from the Star Wars series.
Now, event planning consultant and blogger Jeff Hurt embodies Yoda to offer some inspirational phrases to meeting planners. That and more in today’s Social Media Roundup:

Out of all wise fictional characters, none is wiser (and less grammatically correct) than Jedi Master Yoda. Executive vice president of Velvet Chainsaw Consulting and event planning consultant Jeff Hurt adopts the voice of Yoda in his blog post “Jedi Master Yoda Shares 14 Inspirational Quotes for Meeting Professionals.” Here’s a memorable example from the bunch: “The fear of changing your conference experience is path to dark side. Go there you must not.” (ht @thereal_Yoda)
Track It, But Don’t Forget To Analyze It

Data can be a powerful thing when used correctly. For Nonprofit Technology Network’s staffers, it’s all about learning more about what they’re doing for the organization’s community over time. In NTEN’s case study, the technology group hashed out five outcomes that represent the organization’s strategies and used data collected throughout the year to measure member participation. The case study includes a detailed outline of the organization’s analysis of its data, which led to a reevaluation of its engagement strategies. Here you see data analyses at its best, but will it improve the organization’s standards? “Once we have the data on the dashboard, it continues to be part of the strategic planning,” NTEN’s IT Director Karl Hedstrom says in the study. “During our monthly strategic meetings and our weekly tactic meetings, we look at the dashboards and use that information that’s there. That’s why we collect it. It needs to be actionable.” (ht @JohnSegota)
