Conference Circuit: Pig Tales

The American Association of Swine Veterinarians' 48th Annual Meeting begins this weekend in Denver. Around 1,000 attendees are expected.

Close to 1,000 swine veterinarians and veterinary students are headed to the Mile High City in the coming days to discover new products and technologies, exchange information with their peers, and gain science-based, practical knowledge.

Organization: American Association of Swine Veterinarians

Conference: 48th Annual Meeting

Venue: Hyatt Regency Denver

Following Saturday’s preconference seminars, the 48th AASV Annual Meeting will start on Sunday with afternoon concurrent sessions and an evening welcome reception. Also worth noting:

Healthy competition. Fifteen veterinary students, who earned their spots by producing the best abstracts at the AASV Student Seminar in September, will compete for awards in this year’s Veterinary Student Poster Competition. Everyone’s a winner: First place takes home $500, and the student who comes in 15th earns $200.

Quick tips. The half-day preconference seminar, “AASV’s Got Talent,” will cover a variety of topics and give attendees ideas that they can implement as soon as they leave the meeting. Presenters are sure to bring their best tips, too, as they are competing for the “tipster of the year” cash prize.

Bidding war. Attendees are encouraged to take part in the meeting’s silent and live auctions, which benefit AASV Foundation programs like swine research and scholarships. Items up for bid include Green Bay Packers tickets, a trip for four to Spain, pig-related artwork, and noise-canceling headphones.
